A MEDITATION ON EXESTENTIAL OPTIMISM
Featured in the Vero Beach Museum of Art "A Tribute to Local Artists" exhibition and receiving an honorable mention, placing in the top 10 of over 800 entries, SUNNY SIDE UP created quite the wave on social media and also in our local community. Multiple interviews, articles, and engagements were the result of this photoshoot and I couldn't be more proud of it.
At first glance, many people thought that this was a physical metaphor of the saying "you have egg on your face", which I had not heard myself until I posted these photos. This photo symbolizes my own personal experience with depression and the paradoxical experience of being able to recognize the surrounding beauties and joys of the world without being able to enter fully into them. It has been surreal to be able to see my art on display amongst so many other talented local artists and have so many people tell me they relate to this portrait and that it made them feel seen. Also, the model in this portrait, Noelle Vitale, is currently attending culinary school so this was very "on-brand" for her to participate in!
I aim to create work that makes people stop scrolling or strolling and SUNNY SIDE UP did just that. If this becomes the photoshoot I am most known for in my career then I would be extremely grateful that it was one that I took a chance on and wasn't afraid to push the limits of what others may make of it.
